The Cameron middle school archery team placed 3rd at the Grand State Shoot on Wednesday and qualified for Nationals.
All three of Cameron’s teams (elementary, middle school, and high school) qualified for the Grand State Shoot this year, all ranked in the top 30 in Oklahoma in each of their divisions. The middle school team entered the tournament ranked 3rd behind Altus and Locust Grove. 8th grader Brayson Huckaby was the highest scorer on the team.
The high school team entered ranked 5th and finished 6th. They qualified for Nationals as well. Senior Jordyn Rivera qualified for nationals individually, placing 4th at state. This was her 6th and last OKNASP bullseye state tournament.
The highlight for the elementary team was 4th grader Aaron Weaver splitting an arrow (or shooting a “Robin Hood”). This was only the 2nd “Robin Hood” ever in the 20-year history of the state archery tournament. This was Aaron’s first year in archery.
The middle school and high school teams will compete again on March 2nd at the State 3D Tournament in McLoud. Both will have an opportunity to qualify for nationals in 3D competition. The middle school team is currently ranked 6th and the high school team ranked 4th in the state in 3D.
Both of those teams will compete at the Western National Tournament in Utah in April.
